EMCON 23 Agenda
Welcome to EMCON 2023 and to our new home at Rainton Arena. The year has flown by and we can’t believe it’s a year since we last met. And what a year it’s been!
Since this time last year, we’ve done a root and branch review of Engineering & Manufacturing Network. We’ve reviewed our infrastructure, our membership and our events programme and we relaunched the Network in April 2023. Most importantly, we’ve listened to you – the engineering & manufacturing community about how we can provide the most help. We know the current challenges are skills energy, digital adoption and accessing new markets.
We know that Brexit is still having a significant impact both up and down the supply chain and material shortages and price increases remain a concern. We also know that addressing net zero targets is a big challenge and this will only increase as larger employers look to reduce the carbon footprint of their supply chains. And last but not least, people and talent – it’s a huge headache which is having a significant impact on profits and productivity for many. Whether attracting, recruiting, retaining or upskilling people, there are difficulties to address in all parts of the talent pipeline and there is significant concern about the impact of largescale inward investment on the talent pool.
At EMN, we’ve reacted to these concerns – we’ve established regular peer to peer and best practice sharing meet ups and forums covering Maintenance & Operations, Marketing & Sales, HR & Recruitment, Net Zero and Leadership. The EMN membership is growing month on month across the whole of the North East and we’re maintaining a membership balance of 80% engineering and manufacturing to 20% service providers.
At EMCON this year we’ve created zones and fringe events that help to address some of these concerns and promoted the event to medium and large sized buyers from across the North of England along with the re-introduction of a Meet the Buyer event. Our aim of EMCON being THE SHOWCASE EVENT for engineering & manufacturing small and medium sized businesses in the North East and THE EXPO for larger companies to connect with local expertise and supply chains draws closer.
But as we develop EMCON & EMN, we want to retain the sense of community, the coming together of engineering and manufacturing for common purpose – peer to peer support on which EMNs foundations are built on. So, for a bit of fun this year we’ve introduced the EMCON 23 Awards. Please use the postcard in your goody bag to vote for:
- EMCON 23 – Exhibitor providing the best interactive experience for visitors
- EMCON 23 – Exhibitor providing the best hospitality for visitors
- EMCON 23 – Exhibitor providing the most sought after merchandise
- EMCON 23 – Exhibitor with the most attractive stand
and pop it in the ballot box on leaving. Thanks. Winners will be notified in the coming weeks and promoted on social media.
All that leaves me to say is a huge thank you to all our sponsors.
If you don’t already, please follow us on LinkedIn for all the latest EMN activities and book your diaries for Friday 26th April 2024, EMConf, and 12th September 2024, EMCON.
