Universities, colleges and specialist training providers from across the UK can forge valuable new connections with engineering and manufacturing businesses, thanks to a new Skills Zone section at this year’s EMCON event.
EMCON, which will be held on September 14 at Rainton Arena in Houghton-le-Spring, is now in its 15th year and showcases the very best of engineering and manufacturing in North East England and beyond.
The Skills Zone will provide the opportunity for HE, FE and specialist engineering and manufacturing training providers to meet businesses and discuss the support they can offer, from upskilling and developing staff, bespoke training and skills analysis, to R&D, funding and industry collaborations.
Engineering and manufacturing companies attending EMCON can also learn about the apprenticeship programmes and internship schemes offered by education providers, and the potential to become involved in live student projects. Along with Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
In addition, students from Skills Zone exhibitors are being invited to walk around between 2.15pm and 3.15pm, giving business owners the chance to chat to young people about their courses and potential recruitment opportunities.
David Land, chairman of EMN, said: “We’re very much looking forward to welcoming education providers, businesses and students to EMCOM’s Skills Zone, which has been developed to create an environment for conversation and collaboration.
“The Skills Zone is a fantastic new addition to EMCON which is set to spark off new partnerships between education providers from across the UK and engineering and manufacturing businesses from North East England.
“It’s imperative that HE, FE and specialist training providers and businesses work together to address the challenges that the engineering and manufacturing sector is facing, and we have also seen numerous examples of innovative products and services that have sprung from collaboration between industry and education institutions.”
